We must say goodbye to one of our own.

”Karen has been our inspiration since she co-founded Hands Off My Mississippi/Hands Off Our Constitution with our other members. Her life of enduring values—helping others, creating opportunities, advancing the community, and providing leadership—will be remembered always. We have lost a true hero.” –Len Blackwell

Wednesday, April 15th, the Gulf Coast lost a true pioneer.

Karen Sock was a force – for cancer patients, for students, and for this community. She spent decades advocating for a better South Mississippi. Her legacy made this region stronger, and its impact will be felt for generations to come.

The community leader, former casino executive and Sock Enterprises CEO left her mark not only on South Mississippi but far beyond.

In 1996, Sock became the first Black woman general manager at the original Harrah’s Casino in Tunica.

She was awarded the annual John R. Blossman Humanitarian Award in 2024, which recognized her for her work with Pathways2Possibilities and her leadership during recovery efforts following Hurricane Katrina.

That was just one of many honors…
